PlanterThe plants are grown ready for establishment in the Spring and Summer months.

They are grown in trays of compost cells like mini pot plants around 3 inches tall. Each plant is fed individually into a cup on the planting machine. The plant is then watered before the cup punches a hole though the plastic previously laid on the soil. The watered plant is released and the plant firmed into the soil by press wheels.

The tractor is again guided by satellite to put the plants in the middle of the row of plastic. At team of 2 people plus tractor can plant around 15,000 plants per day.

Plants are not allowed to flower in their first year. The flower spikes are trimmed to produce strong stubby plants with multiple growing points.
