As soon as spring arrives, we get many calls asking when our Lavender is in flower and what is the best time of year to see the fields in their full glory..
This is a photo of one of our Lavender fields taken on May 16th – this is part of what we call our Test Beds where we grow several different varieties of Lavender so we can see how they perform, the colour of the flowers etc – as you can see from the photo we have also been replanting some varieties as Lavender tends to get a bit woody after about 10 years or so and will produce less flowers and less oil.
We are also planting a lot more of our fields which used to be grain (barley and wheat) with lavender – these plants are very small and young and we will have to wait a few years before anything will come of these. We have a specially developed machine to help us with the planting
and so we don’t have to use weed killers, we plant them through plastic which is being laid at the same time. This is all being done in fields away from our shop/tearoom area so sadly you won’t be able to watch this.
A few years to come and the farm will be nearly all Lavender!
Come to the end of June and into July ….. with a bit more sunshine (fingers crossed) this is what you will see, so the answer to the question “when is the best time to see your Lavender in full flower?” from mid June onwards.
Our website, Facebook and Twitter will be updated on a regular basis as soon as the buds start to appear and colour is showing.
From June 1st we will be open 7 days a week. At the moment we are open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm.
We are still worth a visit for our Tea Room and Gift Shop. Our Gift Shop sells all our Lavender products as well as a lovely selection of gifts and locally sourced Honey, preserves, oils etc.
Our Tea Rooms serves light lunches and cakes as well as our famous Lavender Shortbread, Lavender Scones and Lavender Ice Cream
if its a lovely sunny day you can sit outside on our benches and soak up the sun!
Our new outside seating area – when our fields are in flower and open for you to walk around, we have benches out there too!
We are dog friendly here, and although they aren’t allowed in the shop or tea room you are more than welcome to sit outside with them and when the fields are open to take them for a walk.
